Ok so recently, maybe 4 months ago, I replaced the alternator in my 1990 300zx NA. And a few weeks ago my battery light comes on but it is only half its brightness when I am at a stop, but when I take off and the car moves the light goes away. I had the battery tested and it was fine. And I Have been meaning to remove the alternator to have it tested, but what I was wondering is what else could be causing the light to act this way if it is not the alternator.

I am getting the alternator tested also because some of the power steering fluid has started to leak from the hose and is dripping into the alternator. can this also cause the problem?

I imagine oil dripping into an alternator wouldn't be too good. Also, was your replacement alternator brand new or used?

 

Yea rupe I am pretty sure that is what did in the old one it was pretty packed ful of old oil and dirt. The one I put in was new, but like anything I know there is a chance of the new ones being bad as well, I get customers at my work all the time have their new ones go out it seems.

 

I would definitely get that leak fixed and clean up the alternator if you can somehow, then see if it still acts up.
