what do you guys think
what do you guys think
i found a '90tt for sale. its a 5-spd with about 70k on the original motor. its leather, with a small seperation at the threads in the drivers seat (not ripped). the worst thing is the drivers door and glass needs replaced, and possibly the t-top. the door still closes but there is no glass. there is also a small dent in the rocker panel. i havent seen it yet, but will probably go look at it soon to determine the extent of the damage. they want $3500. barring any frame damage, i think im going to try and offer 2800 and see if we can get somewhere in between. i would be doing all of the work myself. i was wondering what you guys thought, and if the low price would offset the door and possibly t-top, and eventually the rocker panel as well. i cant seem to find a price on either one so far. so if the frame is in good shape, is this the deal ive been looking for, or are the parts prices gonna make it not worthwile?
If the frame has no damage I would say do it if you can get him to come down a little. 70k on the motor isn't bad at all for a 90. I'd say get it and contact Z1 about getting used replacement parts.
Yea, I'd go for it at that price, but if the frame has damage, then just walk away man. The car would be worth fixing, getting a new door would solve half the problems right away, but I would try to find a used one in your area first if I were you, the shipping costs on a door would be heinous, they weigh a lot.
Then you'd need a simple repaint and you can sell it to me
j/k

ive been looking for the door, and e-mailed z1. i found one in the right color on ebay with a day left for $0.99! No glass or interior, but i found the glass for about $150 and i could salvage the interior from the wrecked door. i can put up with paint that doesnt quite match for a while at that price. as far as the frame is concerned, there is no way in hell i'd get it if there was even a hint of frame damage. i dont want anything to do with that headache. body crap i have no problem with. seeing how everyone around here wants at least 10 grand for any tt in just running shape, i hope to hell its frame is straight. even if the door cost $500 to fix, i would have less invested in it than people want for a '90 na with over 130k on them. my fingers are crossed.

just got a reply from z1.
A complete door w/ window, motor, regulator, tracks, wiring etc. is $450
A door shell is $250
$125 for shipping to WA.
maybe i'll keep looking, but still not terrible. i would be right around $4k total.

yeah, but i wouldnt want to put daily miles on one, i'd rather have one for sunny days and autocross and not have to worry about the maintinence. that and i'd probably get more tickets if i drove it everyday.
