Hey guys having a little problem with the fuse box on my 90 300zx n/a. Everytime i get into the car everything on my instrument cluster dosnt work. Once i wiggle the meter fuse everthing works....untill i turn the car off lol. its getting to be a pain that evertime i start my car i have to mess with the fuse. I have changed the fuse numerous times and still the same problem. My rmp gauge doesnt work either so i took it in to a shop and they said i will need a new gauge cluster and it will be expensive to do. Could a bad gauge cluster really be causing both of these problems? (rmp's not working and having to constintly mess with the fuse for the cluster to work)

 

Not familiar with that particular setup, but one of the things jap stuff is famous for is crappy fuse boxes. They used to get a little corroded, heat up, and the heat would remove the temper from the spring contact, and it would just get worse. I'd consider alligator clipping an in line fuse across the offending circuit for test purposes and see exactly what the result was before considering anything major.

 

Ya because im guessing replacing a whole fuse box would be alot of $$ in labor.. They also said replacing the instument cluster would be really expensive, but i dont see how. You can buy a used cluster off line for around $100, and just saw a diagram that showed how to replace it. It dosent look that hard, but i could be wrong

 

Well, if you clip a test fuse across the offending circuit, then we'll have a little more idea of exactly what's wrong. Then we can worry about how to fix. Could be several different things, or just one.
