analog instrument cluster 85 to 88??!

my car is a 85turbo with the analog dash, the tach and rpm gaues are whack... dont know if its the cluster or not but im just trying to take it out right now...

any way, I got a cluster for free from a 1985na... but then a couple months later I found a 88na cluster, and i bought it thinking that it would drop in..., it looks so much better. I have not taken my original out. The 88 was so easy to take out... just unscrewed every thing, killed the steering calumn(was a junkyard and didnt have the right set of tools so my cousin went at it with a screwdriver) and it droped enough to give us room. but all i did was pull it far enough to unhook the wires... but the 85 is gay, it wont go no where. I can get it too the point of my hand getting in there but nothing else. maybe I need to take parts out from under the dash and go in that way? or take the dash off but thats gay... i dont think thats nessecary

but have yall ever heard of a newer analog cluster in a older analog car? Would I need the whole wiring from the 88? the cluster was only 25 bucks so it wont be horrible if it doesnt go in, maybe I can just change out the back of it... what do yall think.

here are some pics of the front and back of the two clusters... i dont know if they work or not but gotta be better then mine(if thats why my tach and speedo are wacka. my cousin has tested junk in the engine bay and stuff so... I dont know. I figured cluster would be easy thing to rull out first. or I could go to digital dash... I know like three people with parts cars that have them...

pic of front

backs, notice the 85 has more crap, I think... like the tubular thing behind the speedo

well after looking azzum sight, I found the "fiche" spelling... anyway looks like the post 86 analogs have no speedo cable... atleast the 88 I took it out of didnt and the fiche didnt have one in it... I hear about a speedsensor from my cousin in digitals... so maybe that is it, I dont know.

he said I should just try and swap out the faces. they are identical... it was 25 dollars not a real biggy if it doesnt work... ill see what happens when I get my cluster out LOL

Just searched through the forum... sounds gay to fix the speedo, something about seals going out in pinion gear allowing fluid into the cluster through the speedo cable... makes me wanna swap out all the stupid 88 stuff...

I'd take the one on the left.....it's full of gas as opposed to 1/4 tank...
