I have Z fever....

Hello from Austin, Tx. Just purchased my first 300zx from my neighbor for $1000. It's a 1990 Z32 non turbo, manual transmission with 170k miles. Body and interior in good shape but car has been sitting up and not driven for 3 years now. Planning on making this my daily driver but have a lot to do to it first.

Radiator, fan, waterpump, timing belt, hoses, fuel lines, vacuum lines, exhaust, brakes, sensors, and whatever else that needs attenton.

Been working on her for 3 nights now after work trying to get her started. She cranks and wants to start but hasn't as of yet. Finally pulled her in to my driveway tonight with my Jimmy. Thanks to this forum I have learned quite a bit already and look forward to knowing this car inside and out as I will do all the work myself, in my driveway until she's back running the streets. Haven't owned a car since my 5.0 Mustang in HS and I look forward to getting this one up and running.

I plan on starting a build thread for this project and will be posting lots of updates and pics.

Changed the oil, threw in a lil Marvins Mystery oil, new spark plugs, Seafoam treatment to clean the injectors and took her around the block a few times tonight.

Payday's tomorrow. So many things to do on this car I'm not sure where I'm gonna start but I'm leaning towards exhaust cuz she sounds like Sh*#!.

New radiator, fan and silicone PCV hose kit came in today along with a new SS catback exhaust. Plenty to keep me busy for the weekend.

WoW!!! Been a while since I have posted but sooooooooo much has been done to the Z and she is now my daily driver. I have become obsessed with this car and can't stop working and tinkering on her. A real labor of love that's worth every minute!!!

Mechanicaly: I have put in new "new style" fuel injectors, new coil pack harness connectors, new NGK's, valve cover gaskets, air filter, pcv valves. I replaced all hoses with new silicone hoses and replaced every seal and gasket on the top end of the motor. I also deleted the TB coolant lines, EGR and AIV's.

Lighting: I installed clear lense corner markers with super bright LED's that I use as daytime running lights. These lights actually flash yellow when used for turn sinals or hazards.

Put in red LED's to highlight the SS exhaust at night.

$18 PlastiDip Bra and mirrors. Eventually will dip all trim and wheels. I also found a set of $20 fog lights at AZ that look damn near stock. These will have to suffice until I can afford OEM replacements.

Tinted tail lights.

Installed reverse lights. Couldn't see backing up with stock lights.

I had planned on wiring the reverse lights to the OEM switch so they wouls come on whenever in reverse but I found that the switch on the MT was bad. So I pulled the wiring harness for the back up switch off the transmission and ran it up into the cab where I connected it to the heated mirror switch in the center console. (heated mirrors not working at this time)

I then wired in an LED indicator light to let me know the lights are on. I had already hit the switch accidentaly a couple of times and didn't realize they were on.

These truly help when backing up

serious

You have seriously caught Z Fever, it happens to the best of them, like you said "a labor of love". I always tell my co-workers, every bit of OT goes to my cars, plus every other little bit I can scrape together. Love the new exhaust, major upgrade over those rusty ugly things you took off.

Just wanted to give you a big CHEERS ! You have brought a former pos and transformed it into a sweet ride. keep us posted on your baby.

For me, I get a lot more satisfaction building my car and getting all dirty every chance I get as opposed to paying crazy monthly payments to just drive some econo box like everyone else... no thank you ! Once you have driven a Z it's hard to imagine ever going without one.
