Having trouble programming keyless entry

I bought a used KeylessRide from eBay, and have had no success in programming it with my 1996 300zx. The battery on the remote is good as the light blinks as soon as you hit a button. Here are the steps I followed:

1. open trunk
2. close and lock doors
3. Insert key into ignition 6 times in 10 seconds
4. unlock and lock drivers manual lock.
5. Push the lock button on remote once.

Are these the correct steps for my remote? The steps are the same for any brand of keyless remote I buy right? Thanks in advance!

Did you buy a NISSAN remote or generic ("KeylessRide" sells both...)? Pretty sure the car will not accept a generic remote. If you bought a Nissan one, did you verify that it's the correct FCC code / frequency? The security module is programmed to search and accept only a certain number of preset codes (usually only ONE). Also, buying a used OEM one from ebay doesn't guarantee it will work. A lot of remotes die over time, even if it lights up it might not be sending the signal.

From a quick Google search, it sounds like you have the correct programming steps. On my 97 Infiniti, I programmed two remotes, and the hazards flash after the 6x key inserts to let you know it's in programming mode. The first remote I bought would not program, stopped by Inifiniti and had the parts guy test it... battery fine, remote toast.

gotcha, your post helps a lot! This remote I'm trying to program is identical FCC codewise to the KeylessRide remote that came working with the car, so it should be compatible.

Looks like the step I am having a problem with is getting the car into programming mode. The hazard lights do not flash after I insert the key into the ignition six times.

Do I just merely insert the key in and out, or do I need to turn the key everytime?

Also went to Autozone today and they verified that the remote is good, so looks like somethings not letting the car go into programming mode. Any suggestions for where to go from here?

Did you ever find a fix to this?

Did you ever solve your problem? I seem to have the same issue getting the car into reprogramming mode.

I am also having the same problem. I even changed keyless remote module. I have a 94 300zx convertible. the step with opening the trunk from inside won't work unless key is in ignition. Is yours a convertible also? Im wondering if convertible has different instructions
