Question About z32 Rear Center Panel
Question About z32 Rear Center Panel
Going back through my garage to clean it out I came across something I purchased back in the 90s. It's still in the box. It's a Rear Center Panel for the tail light assembly of a z32. I remember ordering this directly from the dealer and it took a while to arrive because it was coming direct from Japan. It's not a standard Rear Center Panel though. The "300ZX" lights up like a bluish color. Someone a long time ago mentioned to me that it was actually a rare piece because it wasn't something I ordered through some aftermarket company or someone person who just custom makes them online. I'm not sure how accurate that is because I can't really find any details on it.
I see a lot of these being done aftermarket online like these:
97-99 NISSAN Z32 300ZX / Fairlady Z — J-spec LED Illuminated Center Panel / Reverse Lights
Mine doesn't look like those though. In all the ones I see online, the outline of the numbers and letters is the part that glows. On my panel, the entire center of each number/letter glows. I still have the box it was delivered in. It was shipped from Japan to a Nissan location in California where it was then shipped to me. The shipping label on the box says Nissan Motorsports / Parts Division 745 West Artesia Blvd. Compton, CA 90220-5594"
The part number on the box inside of the shipping box says "B6540-40P00" which from what I can find is just the OEM Fairlady Rear Center Panel but the ones i see online do not have the letters glowing in the middle.
I mentioned it to a few people online that own z32s and a few of them have asked to buy it. Before I sell it, my question here is... is this thing rare in any way? How much should I be asking for it? I just can't seem to find one like it anywhere. All the ones i have found online are made by taking a Fairlady panel apart and sanding down the letter outlines so that you can put a LED strip across it and then the outlines of the letters glow. Mine was not made this way. The entire middle of each letter/number glows. Maybe this was just some aftermarket part that could be ordered direct from the dealer at that time. I have no clue. It just seems odd that if it is just some random aftermarket piece, why go through the extra effort to make the entire center of the letters glow when it's so much easier to just make the outlines glow when you're working from a finished piece? It seems like it would be so much harder to take a finished piece and clear out the center of each letter/number to make it glow when you could just lightly sand down the outlines like everyone else does.
So if anyone can help me figure out what this thing is worth or any additional details on it, that would be great.
Thank you.
