Is it possible to do a swap with that engine and an 84 300zx. And how much of a hassle would it be doing a swap period?

 

First you must ask your self why you would want to do an sr20 swap? Im only guessing this is the motor you intend to put in since its mentioned in the title. Second - Yes its possible to do the swap, I mean anything is possible but I cant find a logical reason why to do the swap. Sure the motor is not as heavy but think about the displacement. I would put up my 3.0 Liter to any 2.0 Liter any day of the year. Why would you want to do this swap is what my question is

 

well its not a bad question really...an sr20det which is what youd want in the first place is very light and very highly moddable.. much more moddable than the infamous vg30e..problem is 280zx that there would be failry large expenses in this swap...new motor mounts...hope you have fabrication skills lol ...matching a tranny etc....if you have the vg30et then straight up exhuast mod and intake mod get a MBC open the downpipe and youd run 7 to 9 psi safely

 

dropping an sr20det would shave like 200+ lbs, from your z31. sport compact car has an sr20det powered 280z that was put together by ZFEVER in one of their issues from like last year i think. you should try and find it, it might give you a good idea about the hassle that might be involved. how easily would a RB20DET fit into a z31?

 

ive seen it done, but if you dont have some wicked fab skills, you better rob a bank.

 

so it won' use the stock mounts? what about 200zrs they had rb20dets

 

still wont mount up on vg30 mounts. if you want to get crazy like that, why not go with a rb26dett. ive seen that done on a japanese website.
