intake:worth the time?

alright i am lookin at my intake and i am thinking about slappin on a 90 degree elbow and the regular cone filter (might use one from a late 90's silverado)

but is it really worth it?
the current air box doesent seem restrictive but are there any gains from taking it out?

it looks sooooper sweet. you can make your own hard pipe intak it will look nicer. and if you ever go into more extreme mods it will be beneficial. such as cams headers exhaust and an upp'ed compression on the engine. basically anything that would demand more air

If you're interested, I have a used MSA intake/filter for an NA 280ZX, which I'll sell for any reasonable offer. Other people have bought from me on here before, so I'm no scammer. I can post up a picture later if you like.

yes it would be worth your time because the stock air box is ugly.

well lemme see what i already have, when i got fired from an old lot attendant job i took ALL the old K&N style air filters they pulled out of cars so i may have something laying arround i can use.

i may still need to take snw up on his offer for the air regulator because my car dries to die comming down from idle but i still have some more investigating to do

yep, but it doesent seem to want to stay at about 750 rpm, when it warms up the idle speed goes up, so i adjust it down while its warm and then it tries to die commin down to idle when its cold. its funky i was gonne clean out and tweak the AFM in the next few days.....

i would have done it and alot of other things sooner but my girlfriend glommed on and thinks its the neatest thing now that i dont work so we can hang out all the time and when we do shes just grumpy as HELL! freakin womens...atleast unemployment has kicked in to buys me some gasses and probally make several car payments with

i would go for the intake over stock.....reasoning:
1: Just a miniscule gain in power and mph...but its still there
2: It looks way better
3: If your a person that trys to cut weight wherever you can you can lose a few here.

ok heres a quick question, whats the diameter of the openings on the AFM/ThrottleBody?

i'd measure but i would really like to just pull it out once and put it back in with the new stuff and i need to know so i can get the right size reducers.

would it be to cheap of me to use ABS?
oh and i did have a K&N from a silverado, its a big drum type filter for those who dont know, the opening on the bottom is 3.5 inches and its about 10 inches long, probally a little over kill but its free, i want to do thing right but if i can use something i already have i am gonna and i can always change it later

<cough ... cough>

Loosen clamp with phillips screwdriver, remove rubber boot, measure diameter (takes 30 seconds). The OD of the TB is 2.25in I think?

ok thats good because the only pipe i could find was ABS and is 3" so if i go to turbo i'll just need to get a coupler and replace the reducer that i need to get now

air intake

you are already sucking cold air from the front of the car why take out the stock box just put in a K&N filter. The 90 degree tube looks cool but it's not worth the work

i am pulling air from the front but the pipe is deteriorating pretty badly, i poked a hole in it the other day when i was leaning into the engine bay.

i still havent done this i need to find some one that'll bend some steel pipe for a decent price, which ever shop i call theyre alwyas closed, even durring the week!

there a big muffler convention or something?

Just drive up to a muffler shop in your dirty work clothes & ask a tech to bend it. They're usually cool if you look like you've been working on cars & know your stuff. I always wear my Nissan tech outfit when I need a shop favor...
