Talking supercharging

yes i know if i want to turbo my 88z it would be a lot cheaper and easier. but id like to be different. yes i know that the turbo lag isnt bad and that its still torqy but i still want to be different. plus i think it would be easier maintanence in the future. even though its a bit pricey and all. so i was really wondering if anyone has a setup with a sc and knows how i can go abouts it or if you all just want to leave me in teh gutter

Welcome to ZDriver!

Feel free to search, as this idea / question has been asked before:

https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...t=SUPERCHARGED

https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...t=SUPERCHARGED

As it goes w/ any mods... you need to ask yourself: Is the benefit worth the cost of time & money? or Am I doing this just to be different?

I think you have much work and "maintenance" to do. Get busy...

yeah im not going for like the 500hp car but i do want it around the 250's not to much. maybe a little more. not a big fan of nos either. thats just to much work for me dont want to deal with all that. i know all the basic stuff that i need to do to get more hp but i always thought that superchargers are pretty sick and i wouldnt mine having it turbo'd but it does say something when you got a big sc sittin out of your hood.

Hello all long time not talky from me lots of time training and everything.

OK first off if you don't like it sticking out of the hood I suggest you get a very large cal induction because I don't know if you ever checked the clearance between the engine and the hood now but it is very tight as is. A super charger off a vg33 is a great idea. Good call Charlie but you will still need something covering it if you don't want it sticking out the hood.

Your 250 mark will not be hard to reach with boost. My car last dynoed at 210 and that just with the boost up at 10 pounds. the tq was over 250 though.

by the way its not NOS its nitrous unless your talking the particalar brand name. using NOS to indicate the whole market is ricer. just to let you know. Not to be a dick

yeah... if you look at the nitrous selenoid its clearly label NOS soo he is right... wether it was intentional or not, he is right.

you could always just do a huge hood scoop... I have never seen a vg33 supercharger, im sure you can buy it from somewhere for a ton from nissan or something... Idk but it comes in xterras somewhere around 04 so it will be a while before you could find them in junkyards or finding a wrecked one... for 250 just build up a vg33 engine... in my opinion it would be the easiest...

someone mentioned it earlier, but there were supercharged xterras and frontiers. I believe they are VG33 blocks as well.

2002-2004 was when the xterra was S/C. after 04 Nissan went to a 4 liter v6.

but that enigne should bolt into a 300zx from what I have read. it made 210hp and 231 torq, more hp than a turbo vg30 but torq is almost same. I found a supercharged vg33 on car-part.com for 1600 I think... its really not that bad seeing as how the engine is from 02-04... but I would imagen you would need ecu and all but I dont know... and I just searched for the supercharger, and got a bunch for 400 to 600 bucks with fuel rall and junk...

here is a picture of all the crap if you wanted to see it... I think it would look pimp . I would like to do this to a older nissan truck or pathfinder though. I would leave my engine turbo. but It would be sick

yep the vg33 will bolt into the 300zx but you will have some problems with the Dohc its kind of tight.

So if you take the vg33 bottom end and do some fit matching with heads. along with putting in lower comp. piston for th vg33 because they run 10.2 or something like that.

Wait that sounds like someones plan I know to build...hmmmm wonder who??

The S/C on the Xterra was first offered in 2000 I had one and it went through more gas than a frog drinking beer. But the Xterra is amuch heavier car than the Z31. Just find a wrecked S/C xterra and swap the needed essentials into the Z.

Doesn't a turbo put out more power, and is way more efficient, though?

turbo's make back pressure but dont rob power from the drivetrain, so in that manner they are more efficient in creating power, but the S/C has no lag.
