supercharged turbo?

i know this subject has been covered before but i couldnt find any information on a successful supercharged engine swap. i was actually wondering if anyone has ever successfully swapped a supercharged engine in a z31 and then put a turbocharger on top of that. i know it would be extremely difficult and expensive but i just wanted to know if it was even possible to imagine such a thing being done or if anyone has ever tried it before.

Here it comes... the famous "Nothing is impossible, but a lot of things are un-realistic or not cost effective"

Yes... it can be done. I've seen several 280zx's w/ superchargers (I haven't looked for any S/C Z31's). If you have a lot of experience w/ superchargers & engine design / building... then you can do it.

Not to deferr you from our forum, but check out www.hybridz.org as their main purpose is modified / hybridized Z's.

Yes, it can be done. It has been done on many cars. I've not seen it done on a Z31.

But since you're asking this question, I have my doubts about you being able to accomplish this task.

I'd think your biggest thing would be making it so it works right. For a supercharged/turbo wouldn't you essentially need to have a point where the turbo would kick in, and the supercharger could essentially shut off? I imagine you wouldn't want the turbo and the supercharger both pumping into the intake, wouldn't that be the equivelant of running really high boost from a single turbo? It almost sounds like it would work the same way as a sequential TT setup, only the smaller turbo wouldn't need to spool and you'd always have power.

I never said I had the ability to accomplish this. It is a process of learning; I don't think anyone is born with the ability and knowledge to perform such tasks do you? Everyone has to start somewhere... it's called trying to gather information so I can begin learning about the subject. I'm sorry if not a mechanic god like you may be, but i am also only 18 years old and you have much more experience than me. It's all a matter of learning, everyone has to at some point.
Thanks for the info.

the old diesel jimmys in semi had a supercharger and turbo right on top of each other,it seemed to work great, but the engines internals were poor. research how and why of that engine and you have lots of answers of how to do it. ive often though about doing that. i think they do it cause the supercharger keeps the turbo spooled quite a bit, and the turbo in return crams lots o air into the charger.

Go read books. Most websites and forums are full of idiots who have issues tying their shoes, let alone being able to properly put together an SC/TC combination.

lol, i suppose this is true a lot of times and can get irritating. i am actually going to be going to college next fall and then a specialized technical school so i can work as a master technician. i was just trying to think of some projects i might be able to tinker with on my Z since i think it would be a fun car to upgrade. i will take your suggestion though and go get some good books on this kind of thing.
