MSD Install Help

Hey guys just sitting here at work watching it rain and thought about hooking up my MSD 6AL BTM today after work. I have read it before but I am unable to relocate the forum on which of the four wires coming from the Distributor is the signal wire. If any one has this link or knows it off hand i would appreciate it. thanks Josh

I found this site and I believe the Black with a White tracer will be the wire I need to connect too. This will give me my signal I hope! Any insight yet ?

Ohh here's the site!

I saw this thread, but didn't answer your question because I have never heard of the "signal wire" coming from the dizzy. I have a Z31T ecu & Mallory ignition on my 280zxt, and have the signal wire coming from the stock ignitor (like in the pic you just posted). The large Black / White wire should be a 12v power wire.

Do you have the MSD install instructions? It should be pretty easy to follow.

I do have the instructions but the white wire on the MSD hooks up to a points or single wire distributor. the way we hooked my brothers 260Z up was that we used the two wire coming from the distributor hooked them up to the two signal wires going to the MSD. If I had it in front of me right now I could remember what they were called. I 'll see if I can find a link or post of The BTM.

it's basically like this. Black goes to the negative terminal on the coil. Orange goes directly to the positive terminal on the coil. Then you take the wire that originally went to the negative terminal on the ignition coil and hook that up to the white wire. Take the wire that went originally to the positive terminal on the coil and hook that up to the red wire. That's how the instructions show it. I forget why, but I remember when I hooked it up on my 280ZX it was the other way around. I took the wires that ran from the original positive terminal and had to hook it up to the white and the wire that originally went to negative got hooked to red. Basically check your two existing coil wires and the wire with 12v with ignition on goes to the red MSD wire. Then the other goes to white.
