Help me, new to this site and a Z newby

I had just purchased an 85 300zx NA 2+2 with 123,000 miles. I drove the car for 3 weeks, the car has new wires, plugs, fuel filter, and timing belt. I got home the other night and went in for dinner, came out, started the car up, she ran really rough, coughing, then stalls. My experience with my 82 corvette, I went for the Air Flow Meter and Disconnected it, the car fired right up, but you couldn't rev above 2000 RPM, Would this be a symptom of a bad Air Flow meter ? The car was idling and you could rev it with the unplugged Air Flow Meter but not over 2000 RPM , she seemed to run fine ??

sounds right. unplugged MAS will limit you to 2000 rpm.
