Fuel pressure woes
Fuel pressure woes
I’m struggling with the 85 2+2 NA. I suspected I was having fuel pressure issues so I put in an inline gauge. It confirmed I had ok pressure but it slowly reduced under load until the engine starved.
So I replaced the fuel pump (fitment confirmed on rock auto). Now I have 60PSI showing on my gauge. Too high. Also the P.O. hacked the wiring at the back and the pump runs all the time on ignition - presumably on full voltage. Then I installed an adjustable FPR but the lowest I could get is still at 60PSI. I then removed the FPR completely and still show 60PSI! The FPR can increase pressure by limiting flow but it can’t decrease pressure from the baseline.
Did rock auto give me the wrong pump? Is the full voltage cause the pump to output at max and overdoing the PSI? I’d really appreciate any help!
