Engine Lifting

Is it possible to pull the engine and trans out together ?( I can cut the radiator cross member out if that helps ) What 4 bolt locations on top of the motor do you use to for lifting it ? tried to find good pics/ description online, but nothing very detailed.

Um, I'm sure it can be pulled out as one piece, once the radiator is removed and I'm sure the engine fan. I've never pulled a Z31 engine/trans but I'm sure Nissan wouldn't design a car that you had to cut up to pull the engine.

If your engine doesn't have lift brackets on it anymore (a lot of people lose them) then you should be able to go buy some at a parts store or order them online.

Years ago I helped a buddy pull an engine and trans out of a '87 NA 300zx. DO NOT CUT THE CROSS-MEMBER! Pull the front nose off, pull the radiator, fan, etc. Remove the shifter if its a 5spd. Drain all engine fluids and either drain the transmission or cap the tail once you remove the drive shaft. The key is to get the car high enough and a have a large engine lift to pull it all out as one unit. We used a regular 2 or 2.5 ton engine hoist and almost maxed it out before being able to clear the car.

No need to cut anything. Its a very simple process.
