Z31 or Z32

I was contimplating if i should get a Z31 Turbo, or a Z32. I Already have a 2+2 Z31 right now, but i want something more sporty. I can pick up a Z31 turbo for about $1500-$2500, or a clean Z32 for around $3-3500. What do you guys think?

Z31 is a bit easier to get at engine components and work on. I like the 1987-89 style.

Are you looking for a mostly stock car or do you plan for high horsepower?

I am eventually looking for performance mods in the future, but i want it to be reliable as well. Ya, ive noticed when you look under the hood of a z32, you cant see anything underneath past the heads, including the ground. (i cant imagine a twin turbo) But if its not known to break, then its fine.

Z31 has got more room inside the cabin. Z32 all you can stick inside is a bag of groceries and a case of wine. Z31 needs serious help on suspension. Guy in the club has a 86 turbo that dynos 300 at the wheels so you can make them go. I've got 85 turbo and 96 TT. Both fun to drive. Probably easier to do your own work on the z31 (at least there is more room) but the 96 with rear wheel steering is killer in the twisties. if the z32 is non turbo it doesn't have the GO of z31 turbo (my opinion). They are both pretty bulletproof and there is plenty of info on the z31 problems that are fixable. Like cyl head temp sensor. on the z31 pull up rear mat and look for rust both side outboard just aft of the wheels. If you don't have good info on timing belt change out figure that be the first thing you got to do cause these are interference engines.

i know for a fact that you can fit a whole lot more than that in a z32 if you try. yeah, you can fit more in a z31 tho. i have packed both as full as they could go. i moved everything i owned from san diego to seattle in my z31, over 400lbs worth.

in my z32 coupe, i fit a complete 85 hatch, two wheels with tires, a set of heads, two t-tops and a bunch of small stuff, the cool part is that i was still able to close the hatch..

my z32 fit a 1x2.5x3ft bin full of stuff, a 42" oak table, all my tools, 2 computer chairs, some clothes, a large partially assembled RC plane, few pairs of shoes, couple of shoebox sized boxes, a guitar, and some other random things. and the hatch still closed!!

Well, if i wanted to haul stuff, i would get a truck, but i just want to go fast, thats why i want a Z. Who cares how much room it has in the trunk. I already have a Benz with plenty of that.

from my own experiments with top speeds of z31 vs. z32, the z31T would be about the best MPH for the buck, my friends stock 88T with blown struts, sagy springs, failing brakes and bald tires to 156, it was rock solid all the way there, i see no problem with a z31 doing in excess of 180MPH with little aerodynamic modification..

A $3500 Z32 will require a lot of money in repairs. A $2500 Z31 will usually be much closer to a daily driver.

As far as you guys fitting that stuff in a Z32... I cry bullshit. I know the hatches aren't that big. The Z31 hatches are much bigger.

Z32, Is timeless. I like Z31's though. Go to youtube.com and type in 300zx commercial. Watch the twin turbos kick in.

everything i stated did fit in my z32. and i said i fit more in my z31. there is no argument that the z31 has quite a bit more cabin space.

I live in the Bay Area where Z32 are very common and are cheap. A clean Z32 will only be $3500, if not less. I can pick up an 04 350Z for 16k if i wanted.

Buy a Z32 TT. I sold my 350 for one. It's a more aggresive car.
