You were right, it was rings.

Since im new at the Z's should i be thinking about diving in head 1st after the rings.

I have no idea what im getting myself into(hope that comment doesnt offend anyone on here; i'm finding Z people despise car ignorance).

i need some advice, the cars my daily runner, how deep am I?

Take it to a reputable shop and have them diagnose / fix the problem.

ring swap is a BIG job. and it's not a very good idea to do it without at least a partial rebuild. your cylinders will need to be re-honed. someone may dis agree, but it's really a good idea to have it bored when you change rings. do some searching to find out how to check for sure weather the problem is rings.
