I need opinions about a fresh long block swap.

I have a 2000 dollars and i found a site "www.jisengine.com" that have long blocks of the VG30ET for 1125.00, ruffly leaving 900 dollars, my current VG30ET from my 86 z31 is fulling functioning.(it has a small smoke problem i believe its turbo seals now, rarely smokes at an idle or with little throttle, smokes only with heavy throttle and its such a small amount of blue smoke it cant be seen by the driver)

would it be a smart idea to continue to repair the stock turbo and order a long block and swap all remaining parts off old VG?

If you are dying for a new motor, and can pull it yourself, just get yours rebuilt. A good machine shop shouldn't charge more than $500-$1000 for a complete rebuild. Buying a used motor doesn't guarantee that it's not been beaten... or that it needs a rebuild and they just stuffed it w/ some thick oil for you.

If it's your turbo that needs work... pull the turbo and have it rebuilt. No need to replace an engine because of an old turbocharger.

i thank you, im just extremely anxious to learn.

to put it nicely im very, amateurish, with all types of car mechanics.

i understand the theories, but when has that been the same as the practice.
I want to rebuild a new motor to learn, and understand(and to brag) but mostly because i love Zs and i dont want to be a noob all my life.

so i have the money, i have my dads garage and tools
(his garage his hours have priority), im just nervous ill F@#k up.

i only have 2gs and if i get a snagged because of a mistake, ill be out of cash quick.

Cool If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Unless you have some spare coin (your 2k ain't enough), and, have a strong desire to take on a sizable project for no good reason, leave it alone until the smoke becomes a nuisance.

Your post indicated everything was functioning normal with the exception of a slight, little, puff of blue at boost. Don't sweat it. I've seen very few turbo charged cars that didn't smoke a bit while being thrashed.

Unless the bearings are knocking, and, it looks as though you are fogging mosquitoes, you are good to go. Keep driving it, give it proper maintenance, and it may last for a long time.

You can keep saving your moneys, and, when it is time to refurbish, you can go all out with the project.

And, BTW, I'd be skeptical of a long block deal like you mentioned. You will be ahead of the game by using a local, reputable, engine machine shop for the block and head work. Even if you figure out what you're doing, they have the equipment that you don't for the job.

Good luck. Keep us posted.
