Weight Reduction Help

So I was taking a look at my z day and its a really small car(duh). But 2900 pounds seems kinda heavy for a car of that size in my opinion. Any tips on reducing the weight? Thanks in advance.

Lol, you realize even the smallest honda civics only weigh like 200 pounds less right? Hell even a stock 240z is 2400 pounds. 2900 ain't **** for a RWD car with A/C, PS and a bunch of little creature comforts.

Lastly, a z31 is small, but not near as small as you thinik.

Just start pulling out all the interior and get a lighter drivers seat. Get aftermarket lightweight wheels. Pull AC, power steering and all emissions.

Yeah I pulled out the a/c stuff today and I'm not really to hardcore about it. It would be awesome though if I could be in the 2700-2800 pound range. I was thinking in perhaps getting lighter seats but since mine is a 2+2 having only the 2 front seats being aftermarket it would look kinda odd. Any idea if the z32 wheels are lighter than the 85 z31 wheels?

If you have a 2+2 like ours is you'd be surprised at the overall length. We noticed the other day our Z is almost the same lenght as our 2004 maxima and not much shorter than our full size Chevy truck.

You can remove the spare tire/tools ect from the back, also that 20 lb foam rubber pad under the rear carpet.

Well if I did reduce the weight, let's say to 2700 pounds. How will that effect my 0-60 or 1/4 times. I read in a z31 performance thread that each 100 pounds lost is like .1 off a quarter mile. In my opinion not worth it. Any other stats u guys can throw at me to prove or disprove that?

Personally, it's not worth the road noise or loss of Air Conditioning to remove all the insulation and other stuff. If you want a light car, get a bike.

Well the a/c didn't work anyways and like I said earlier I'm not hardcore about. I would hate strip stuff. I'd rather replace stuff and make them lighter. Like the seats for example. But if 100 or 200 really doesn't help in going any faster I'd rather keep my car the way it is.

500lbs? Are you delusional? All of that stuff you recommend removing weighs less than 500lbs. Let alone having to put most of it back, even using lighter components.

My old power seats h ad to weigh 80lbs a piece... and dont put anything back! Well one light Bride drivers seat. And, yes, 500lbs was abit of an exaggeration.. like no one does that.

80lbs is also a bit of an exaggeration. Stop that. You'll get idiots who believe that number and I hate having to correct bullshit later on because someone chose to stretch the truth a bit. I believe it's more in the area of 50lbs for the 86-89 leather power driver seats. I just weighed a leather, power Z32 driver seat. It came in at 60lbs with the motor and rails attached. I then weighed the matching leather passenger seat that didn't have the rails (and isn't power) and it comes in at 32lbs. I'd be surprised if the rails weigh much more than 3lbs, giving them an in car total of about 35lbs. And the 84/85 manual cloth seats? Forget about it. They're fairly light. I'm guessing closer to 25lbs each with rails. I just don't feel like getting them out of the car right now to actually weigh that set.

So TOTAL, the heavy Z32 leather power seats weigh about 100lbs. The Z31 seats are closer to 70 - 80lbs TOTAL. How much is your single lightweight seat with rails?

The 86 Z31 passenger seat with rails was 32-33lbs (It wouldnt sit quite level), and I apologize for the exeggerations. The numbers were off the top of my head from what I remembered from carrying those items.... and yea the 85-86 cloth seats were alot lighter.
I dont want him to get discouraged though depending on what he's doing. 10lbs=1whp....

Woah.... You have an 85 2+2 that weighs 2900lbs!? My 85 Turbo(assuming the turbo is extra weight) weighs in at 3580lbs. And metrics 1623kgs. Theres this sticker inside the driver door... near the latch. Just double check.

You really need to learn what GVWR means.

No, that's BS. Stock 84-89 seats do not weight that much.

Drivers leather power seats weight about 65 lbs. passengers, 35lbs. Cloths seat less than than.

I've weight them and owned 27 Z31's myself

Then maybe the scale is inaccurate? I've pulled cloth z31 seats and they are no way in hell more then 40 pounds a piece.
