temp gauge

temp gauge
the needle on my temp gauge would move to center of gauge as soon as i turned the key to the on position. replaced the sending unit, it seemed to work at first, but still does the same thing, although sometimes it acts as if it is working properly. what else could cause this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sadly, the oil temperature gauge on my Z does not work either. 
I tried putting in a new gauge but to no avail, and I don't feel like fiddling around inside the engine. I hardly look at the darn thing anyways...
