mkIII supra vs. z31
Ok guys i need your help here. Hard times have come upon me and my Z. My frame is totally rotten, rusted like hell and in some parts flaking off. Im considering taking a risk on the car and completely restoring it, but thats an whole lot of money and time that im going to have to commit.
Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to gather some information and get opinions. I love my Z, and frankly i want another Z. But looking at my options, there are more mkIII supras out there in better condition than Z31's. I'd like to know which car you guys think is better and for what reason. Any additional info or words of encouragement are welcome

HeRo ShiRo: learn to read and write. That post absolutely sucks.
For anyone else that found HeRo ShiRo's post hard to read, I'll translate:
"Hi. My cousin bought a 91 Supra, and it is in mint condition. It also has lots of modifications. Supras are nice, but I've heard the head gaskets are very common problems. Toyota had issued a recall on them. They're faster than a Z31."
I've also heard the headgaskets are a problem. I have a friend who had two MKII Supra engines die on him for the same reason. One was while I was racing him in my NA and was beating him at the time.

...Oh thats wat that said.
Thanks for the input all. The thing is i live in canada so most z31's up here are in total crap condition. The rare ones that are in good condition usually go for around $6-$7000 canadian. I bought my car for like $800. I figure if i get the entire car restored it'll cost less than buying one in "almost" mint condition.
Supra's are nice and all, they're just kinda big. And besides, i like my Z.

Ha hahaha. That's gotta be one of my favorite quotes from zdriver.com!! I LOVE my Z31!!! If you want to stick with a Z31, have you considered getting an '87-'89 Z? RedPrl Z has a nice picture of his on this site too, but I'm sure you already know what they all look like. Or if you have the money, you may want to think about getting a '93 to '95 Twin Turbo Z32. Those things can kick some serious booty, and they look gorgeous!

(gasp!!!) Holy300, you bought a used RX-7 to replace Clarisse?!? How could you?? And here I thought you loved your Nissan Z! When your Mazda falls apart on you and the engine blows to pieces, hopefully we'll see you back on this forum with another beautiful Z31...

he got rid of his z for an rx-7?!!??! rotarys are great and all, at least for about 120k miles, but then.......... and they sound like a big weed whacker. now the vg30 on the other hand, well, need i say more? plus old rx-7s are ugly and half plastic. well, im sure youll find another z when that rotary goes **** up!

Not that I bash rx7's, my brother has a turbo2,(I think thats what it was called), but he's already on engine #2. I don;t think they are that bad of a little car, I wish I could get my z to handle as well as his 7, but I still don't like that whole engine go up in flames thing...............(and no, his suspension is not stock)

I agree the MKIII is a nice car, my friend has an '87 turbo and I've beaten him every time I raced him both top-end and quarter mile. They are rather heavy (3700 lbs at the most and 3500 at least) they have back seats standard and 30 more horsepower than the Z though. His best time slip (5spd turbocharged running tip-top shape) was a 16.5 at 4400 ft. At the same track with just a custom intake, stock turbo, stock PSI everything I ran a 15.44. They are good cars with great technology and have good potential, but I don't think that they are much of a threat stock for stock for a Z. Remember it's 90% driver and 10% car, though. I would recommend both, but I love my Z to death and prefer it's looks, engine and handling to the supra. And yes, on the 7m-gte engines the headgaskets are very weak. If I were you and got a MKIII supra I would immediately replace the headgaskets.

mkiii's with turbo do 0-60 in 6.6 sec while the z31 turbo does it in 7.3. mkiii has 232 hp and z31 has 200. i think stock the mkiii is better but the z keeps on goin forever and doesnt ever break like the mkiii, mkiii's are very fragile(head gaskets). but hey its ur choice, they r both awesome cars.
