Losing all power.. Only in gear?

I am puzzled by this, so is my mechanic.. In neutral I have no problems, can go all throughout the RPM range, but when I am in Drive and go over about 2600rpms, I lose ALL power and the car will not start again for at least 5 minutes.. Happened three times in a row 2 days ago, so I took it to the mechanic and we couldn't even get it to act up there.. No problems. So he didn't want to replace anything if we didn't know what was wrong, well now it is Sunday and he is closed.. And I was on my way to work and it starts doing it again.. Has anyone had the problem? Or know what it could be? It has only happened in gear, and only happens when the engine has a decent load on it.. (2500-3000rpms) Any help would be great.. I have good gas, oil, and coolant.

Welcome to ZDriver!

Have you checked the timing? MAF? TPS? CHTS? All sensor & ecu plugs / wires? Vacuum leaks?

check your throttle position sensor on the throttle body, also if the connector is dirt, clean it up.

Sounds like a classic MAF problem, to me. My old Maxima, which went through about 3 of them, did that. I'd be willing to bet you're going to be replacing it soon.
