i have an 85 z non turbo ,i have a a big problem with my baby
i change my altenator in my car because every lights in the dash board stay on and when i unplug the battery the car died.my mechanic changed the altenator the light still stay on.he change every wires nothing works.

but since you asked here, here's the real answer:
The first think you do when you buy a new alternator is to have it tested before it leaves the store. AutoZone, Pep Boys, and Checker all get their alternators rebuilt by the lowest bidders. The lowest bidders do shoddy work and don't always test their products before they send them out. I bought two bad alternators (well, bought one, got the second on warranty) before I realized what was happening. I made them test the next alternator before I left the store. Lo and behold, it was bad. We called 3 different AutoZones before one of their alternators tested good. That one lasted 6 or 7 years.
