240z long block swap q?

PLease bear with me as I am new to the Z car scene. I bought a bucket of crap 1973 240Z that I am gong to rebuild. I have never worked on a Z cars just VW's so I know zilch.

I wanted to know if I can purchase a 280Z or ZX and use the long block from that car and will everything bolt on without any problems.

Any links etc. for parts at reasonble prices would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Hi and Welcome to Zdriver!

As for swapping engines you can use any year Z that still uses the L engine (Straight 6) in any other Z along with their transmission usually.

The 70-83 share the same drive train for the most part. 99.9% bolt in

i would use the proper head though from that other Z long block. and just slap the carbs on them. i'll bet those carbs need a rebuild though as well.

You need to decide what your budget will allow. Even the latest zx L6 engine is 27 years old. You might as well rebuild the one you got. If your car is a late '73 you might have flat top carbs (nfg) unless you want to keep it original get the dome tops. I have seen many blocks that only need hone, rings, bearings and a polish on the crank. Have the head done and for $500 you got a fresh engine. Good luck!
