I just purchased a 1987 that has a funny sound coming from behind the dash maybe around the cove box. It almost sounds like a stepper mounter that lost its control. Any ideal what I should look for?

have you looked under the dash with a flashlight yet?

theres a lot of crap behind the dash so you cant really just automatically point out one thing, you just have to get in there and try and find it.

 

well back in 1985 they started putting these little fuzzy things behind the box. look towards the right side upward. theres a little door you can pop open and you should see it. i think they called it a rabbit. good luck!

 

Blower motor is in that area. More than likely it's a vacuum actuator in the duct works for the heat/AC system.

 

 

good chance its the blower motor. if it was a vaccum problem you'd notice some chaos. Vaccuum problems SUCK! ITS BADD JOO JOO!

 

more likely what reddzx said. easy enough to pull the dash and look at the stuff.

 

Does your car have the auto climate control grill on the dash ? It is about the size of a quarter and is closer to the passenger side of the dash.
There is a small silver box with a fan that has a hose that hooks to the grill coming through the dash. On my Z, that small fan was making a zinging noise(like a small fan hitting the casing). I replaced the fan with another one i had and it quit. You have to pull the glove box to see it, located just under the gauge pod.
