Fixing 86 300zx

I am going to buy a 1986 300zx turbo t top for 500. A friend is selling and can help weld and paint. It has some things to fix from sitting outside for a while. The owner said the car needs a valve job and timing belt. I am not well versed in fixing engines and wanted some expertise to fix it properly. I have been told that a shop will probably need to do head work as well. I was not sure the process of what I need to do, thank you!

Actual mileage at this point in time could be very important information. (smiley here) 5-speed turbo a good deal for $500 if running or almost running. You will want to 'restore' stuff in any case so check out Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for recyclers and vehicles available and near you. Make sure you have the bucks/credit available because you will need it, most likely. Great project, spectacular Z year.

Timing belt a must-do, first thing. Should have a pro do that. Major engine work needs a pro, too. Find a thinking mechanic with a good reputation, fair prices. Good Luck!
