any of them will fit on your '85. 87+ ones are slightly longer though, which will give your car a slightly wider track. the linkage for sway bar and control arms is different too. you can use your old sway bar linkage, but I don't remember if you can use the newer style tension rods in your early z. If you have access to an 87+ then make a comparison and you'll know for sure.

I just noticed today that the top of my left my tire (stock size) is rubbing lightly against the strut housing. Think if I installed 87+ control arms it would solve that?

it *might* but you probably ought to find out what's causing to do this.... have you changed anything in the front lately?
