Broken crank / machine shop saddness

The shop I want to use says he is too busy to work my engine into the cycle. I think he knows what I'm up to with the turbo build and wants no part of it.

So, I go with choice "b", which is a reputable, locally well known, shop. The dude is disassembling the short block and what does he do? He snaps the snout off the crank while trying to remove the timing gear. He says it was seized and now both pieces are now mine (Mexican warranty).

I'm buying his story, and, I'm buying a new crank (good excuse, right?).

Here's my question. Do I want this "bull in the china shop" building my short block. He couldn't even understand the concept of using vg30dett rods and pistons in a vg30e block. He told me to buy the internals I wanted. He'd see if he could make them work.

So here I am. On shaky ground with the most important person in my life.

Do I play this out, or, fold my hand, and, find a different game? Is he forcing me to buy my own parts, so that if a malfunction occurs, I'll have to assume some risk and responsibility? Did he break the crank to force a new one into the equation? At $200, I guess it's fairly cheap insurance.

It's possible for that to happen , but someone truly capable and with the right tools at their disposal shouldn't have had a problem with that. I mean , I could see me and my $80 tool collection doing something like that , but a guy with a full shop......no friggin way.
