Off to the machine shop

Well, i finally got one of my two blocks ready to go for vatting and boring. I had hell getting the timing sprocket loose from the crankshaft. Im going to have to replace it. Im going to rebuild this one to stock NA just to get the car running. The second block im going to rebuild to turbo spec. its a VG30 block but im not sure what its out of. It came with the car and has a HUGE oil pan, and the accessorie mounts are differing. Just a shortblock though. Is there anything i need to do to the block itself to make it turbo ready? The NA build should be a piece of cake.

Shouldn't be anything to do on the block before the machine shop. What pistons are you putting in it?

Right now, Im going with one size up from stock. Like i said, goal is to get the car running. The second engine is a while in coming... I really wish someone made a turbo conversion kit, this piecing together stuff is a bit tedious. I think, I'll probably just go with stock grade on the second engine too, my goal is about 350hp on the second motor, so a stock motor shouldn't have issues handling that. Im not looking to make an all out race car, just something with the kick of a stock ws-6 trans am. Not too many of these cars around here and I'm on a limited budget, so this turbo conversion is going to be a bitch.

Why not just turbo the N/A motor?

Both engines need rebuilds. Right now I just want the car running so I can use it. $450 for the rebuild kit, plus $120 for the machining is a lot cheaper than trying to turbo it. But if i buy a piece at a time, I can build the second motor just for turbo, and possible sell the NA long block I build to make up for some of the cost, in the mean time, I can use the car.

Why not just turbo the N/A long block when you have everything for the turbo conversion? You really aren't going to get any money back on a rebuilt N/A long block.
