87 turbo flywheel on a 85 na

hey guys, i ordered a oem clutch kit for my 85 z31 na I'm also looking to replace my flywheel i was reading on ZBUM's site and ill quote

"You can use any Z31 flywheel in any of the manual transmissions. Just be sure you use the appropriate clutch."

I'm ready to order a new oem flywheel for a 87 z31 turbo ill put a link bellow, i just want to make sure I'm understanding that quote correctly and that this indeed will fit my stock 85 z31 with stock oem clutch kit, thanks in advance.

i would go for a stock oem 85 z31 flywheel but i can't seem to find one, every flywheel i see seems to be a high performance model for $200 or higher from fidanza or another high priced brand, i don't have that kind of cash right now to spend.

Even though I sent you an e-mail, I'll post here for all to see.... In your e-mail, you didn't originally mention you already purchased an OEM clutch. That would have made it much simpler to answer.

It was really answered in the second sentence there.

"Just be sure you use the appropriate clutch."

No. You probably won't be able to use an NA/84-86T clutch on an 87-89T flywheel. They usually have different bolt patterns. I tried (for S&G) to mount my 87-89T spec clutch to my NA/84-86T flywheel and the bolt pattern didn't match right.

What's wrong with your current flywheel? If you can't afford the performance flywheel, try posting in the classifieds on various message boards. You should be able to get one for cheap. Be aware they are heavy, so shipping will cost a few bucks as well. Or just visit a junkyard. Resurfacing is generally in the $25 to $40 range.

Thanks for the reply and sorry i didn't mention the fact i already purchased an oem clutch, i actually haven't pulled trans off yet so i really don't know the state of the flywheel, since i was putting a new clutch kit on i thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and replace the flywheel while i was at it,

the clutch is toast for sure, it started slipping in first and second, then drastically got worst one day to where i got stranded in down town DC, "no fun" had to get towed back home, my fault though will never let that happen again,

so i guess my next question is will i be able to tell visually by looking at the flywheel if its a candidate for resurfacing? thanks again.

Just plan to have it resurfaced. It's most likely you'll need it. You'd look for burn marks or uneven wear. It's just a precautionary thing really. It's doubtful it'll need to be done, but why risk it?

Personally? I've never had my rotors turned any time I've done a brake job. But the flywheel is a whole new game. Brake rotors are simple to replace if there are any serious issues. A flywheel? Not so simple. And it'll make the clutch last a lot longer.
