flywheel
I would not recommend going less then 14 Lbs...
now not any machine shop can do this...dont give it to your friend and say here, shave off a few pounds as this can do damage to the flywheel and it could potentialy fall apart under higher loads. (and blow trough your bellhousing and the floor and fly into your legs...) you have to know where to take the material off of..., also make sure you get it balanced afterwards...
like i always say wait for more replies...

dont take it off the face where the clutch goes, itll screw up pedal height and life of the flywheel. unless you get spacers, take it off the back and outer edges where the weight is most usefull.

Thats funy because In the diesel fiel we take the meat frome the clutch mounting surface, meanig were the friction disc comes in contact with the flywheel.. you just can't be lazy enough to not adjust everything. I know it is a different engine, but a flywheel is a flywheel.
guys, I think he was talking about getting the flywheel resurfaced, not lightened
In all honesty though I couldn't tell you the safe limit but only have them take off the bare minimum to get it flat. I don't know the minimum thickness specs.

Everytime I do a clutch job, I just get out my highspeed pneumatic zizz wheel w/ a metal cleaning disk & clean it up. If it's got rust on it, or if it's got a gash in it, take it to a clutch / drive-line shop & have them look at it.
