My names charles im 17 ..thats my Z...176k miles on it at the current. its an 1987 300zx...im very confused..i dont see any room to put a cold air intake in it or a filter..unless its beneath the car but i've tried poking my arms around and havent really found any filters on it at the current..also ..its a z31 right..or is a vg30..i cant find any tags or stickers telling me all the information..poop. but everything is clean got it for 1k just little things broken. dampers on front are dead, thus jdm stick holding it up. glove box stays open..e-brake light stays on ( i hope its just minor wiring ) yeah..ect...i hate the sound..i need to buy it a new exhaust / system immediately! does anyone know good exhausts for under 300 that makes it sound muscley? i mean..i can search but i dont know the specific sounds..:]

pretty clean looking car. and for the record, Z31 is the chassis code, VG30E is the engine code. looks like the paint is in good shape but you need a little R&R on it. some rubbing coumpound swirl remover and wax job should sparkle it up.

just for reference sake , says its bolt on , meaning no welding right? so i just boop boop take mine off boop bolt that one on and follow rest of instructions not too difficult? and since that connects to my catalytic converter it should pass smog right? ( i just dont want to have to remove it and put my old one on next year etc..i like 100% legit! )

is that one of the best i can get for 300zx? with my budget of 300? or can i get a cheaper one else where that is equal to that or better? im not..a very good..car person yet...so i tend to ask tons and tons of questions to better my knowledge

if you got a turbo get full 3" exhaust...cuz u will gain at least 35-40hp... if ur n/a then go full 3" exhaust no cat/no muffler cuz it sounds sick...if not then go catback from hks is good or a apexi n1 muffler is good too .......

well..lots of flaming..anyway..i got that msa exhaust system..i just drove to the shop ( 25 minutes away ! awesome whoohoo ) im gonna put it on and see how it issss....my check engine light came on too ... ob1 sucks..kragen cant read it ! ahh..and the reader costs 200$ gosh..

 

uh hum... no "reader" needed. OBD is awesome, if you know how to use it (though I don't think Nissan calls the Z31 ecu diagnostics OBD-I).

i think some one may have forgotten to disconnect the box

VG engines in mid 80's cars are pretty well disconnected from any sort of warning like check engine lights unlike new cars.

the only time i had the check engine light come on in my maxima was because the teeth came off the timing belt, that was an expencive check engine light.

 

just rolled over 177050 miles..

and you know that one light next to the whole km/ whatever..thing i cant remmeber off the top of my mind the big square where it checks like washer fluid and rear whatever etc? and then it goes ok!? well that thing is lighting up red when i drive now..ahh what am i doing wronggg

 

press the button next to that screen, it will tell you what you're doing wrong

unless Z31's don't have the button located there...
