help with bolt on spacers

Anything with math and wheels and fitment gives me anxiety. I have some basic questions about bolt-on spacers.

I own an '87 turbo. It has the stance coilover set-up and Enkei TS-5's. 9in front wheels. 9.5in width real wheels. I like the look in the front, but I'm wishing I went wider in the back.

I don't trust myself to do the math that is needed to figure out the size of the spacers I need to get the right fitment, so I took my car to a shop. The shop said I could probably do 1.25in bolt on spacers in the back. Assuming 1.25in spacers will fit, I should be looking for bolt-on spacers that fit and use 5x114.3 threading, correct? Any particular brand you guys recommend?

Dumb question: Can I use bolt-on spacers that have the same threading as my '87, which is 5x114.3? A website talked about how using a spacer with the same threading as your vehicle doesn't work, but that doesn't make sense to me.

I got my 1 inch spacers from Amazon, Same thread pattern and spacing as my 85 Z31T. However, with my 245 wide rear tires, It barely fits. I should have gone with the .75 inch spacer. What you need depends on your choice of the wheel width, diameter, back spacing, and offset and tire width and aspect ratio.
