Window Woes...

Ugh... Driver's side window is all messed up. It's power and still operates, but the glass wiggles in and out and slides from from to rear. It goes all the way up, but not all the way down. Haven't popped the panel off the door yet (no time). Afraid the Rust Monkey got in there and had his way with the mount.

1. How hard is this fix?

2. Where do I find parts if I need them?

There are plastic slider inserts inside the metal guide tracks. The usual problem is that the plastic slider gets pushed to the bottom. Opening the door panel is easy, just be gentle on the plastic pop-tabs. Use a putty knife or two flathead screwdrivers (one on each side of the tab) and pull out till it pops free.

May not be that bad. check out the body section of the FSM page 11. make sure your stopper bolts are in the right spots.

it could be time to adjust the glass.

That didn't go so well. I was tightening the last nut and the window shattered all over me.

Anyone local to the SF Bay area have a drivers side window? I prefer the stock "gold" tint, but will take a clear glass one.

The last nut on the glass holding tray? Or on the door body?

I'm sure ICE, L-Dub, or Apollo can help get you one. Also check Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

It was on the front mount piece that slides up and down.

I already hit up ICE, Wangan has one...but he's in Oklahoma. The Pick n Pull doesn't have any S130 parts at all. I have a call in to Safelite and another glass company had one, but when the guy opened the box it was broken.

Found one down in Anaheim, but that's like a 6 hour drive one way. My mechanic is trying to source one as well.

Ok. New glass installed. Thanks to In & Out Auto Glass in Oakland for stepping up to the plate!

Home | windshield|car glass|glass repair oakland|door glass san francisco|Auto Glass Repair San Francisco | Auto Glass Repair Oakland

They found one in Sacramento, went and picked it up, gave me a slot at 4pm and I was home by 6:15pm. $170 out the door.

I didn't realize how difficult it would be to find some door glass. So people, take it from me... Take care of your glass. If you don't know what you're doing, get a pro to do it for you.

Do these sliders attach to the glass and slide with it? Or are they floating? If the are suppose to ride with the glass how are they suppose to attach? I have both panels off and they stick to the metal and the glass pops in and out as they roll up and down. How are the suppose to work?

They attach to the glass through holes in the window. It's a 3 or 4 piece thing. You might want to have someone hold the glass while you put things back together or you might end up with a glass shower like I did.

I am talking about the sliders that are on the rear of the window. I think you are describing the bottom where the window attaches. My 81 does not have holes in the glass on the rear slider - just the bottom of the glass where it attaches to the regulator. The rear sliders seem to float both on the glass and in the metal slide - I would think you would want the plastic slider to maintain a position on the bottom edge of the glass and slide up and down in the metal guide. I am just unsure of how they work - friction fit on the glass?

Thanks.

^^^ Yes, those are the front and rear edge track inserts. They are supposed to stay in place but if the window gets out of whack, it can put too much friction on them and drag them up or down, further sticking the window. I can't remember at the moment what keeps them in place (I'm sure you could look in the FSM / Haynes / Nissan4u.com diagrams).

When I first got my 280zx it had that problem, so I opened up the door panel and reset them.
