WHOOO HOO! Wait a second....

Well I went for a fast cruse up and down the switch backs as fast as I could and breaking hard around turns when going down, I got to the bottom and stopped.

MY FRONT BRAKES WHERE SMOKING!

Now I've never got brakes to smoke on that set of switch backs in any cars. This is the first time I did that for the Z. Should I be worried now? Or just shrug it off?

well, with how small those rotors are I would guess that they're warped now or warping worse than they already were.

smoking brakes could be the residual crap thats on them, or that "no-squeak" crap burning up. but i agree with bleach as well, what was left of the rotors is now gone.

Fun. so I should probably park my Z for awhile now huh?
Any ideas on what I should do for an upgrade to help keep this from happening again?

Nismopick says it does but I haven't seen any pictures or articles on it being done.

Larger calipers won't cool your rotors faster. Drilled rotors won't do anything either for your application. What you need are larger rotors with thicker internal vents.

Still working on that one. I need to find a pre 85 Toyota in the junk yard w/ S12 calipers. I found an 89 w/ S12+8 calipers & they don't fit.

Id get the Arizona Z car ones BUT I dont have $1500 to shell out plus the new larger rims and tires I'd need...

And tell me when you figure it out Nismo! I'll try it.

Oh is it even remotely possible (meaning w/o too much fabrication) To put then late style rear brakes on an earlier 280ZX? And I'm talking the entire rear cross member or w/e its called as well. Idk how much I trust those little 2"x2" pads on the rear

95 up exploder rear brakes use 11.25 discs, and the same bolt pattern as the 84 up z. The spindle bearing on yours is the same part # as the 84 up, so ya should be able to take out your 4 lug flange and replace it with an 84 up 5 lug flange. Then just throw the 11.25" ford rotor on it, bolt it down, drop ford caliper on rotor, and weld up mounting brackets as necessary. Catch the wrecking yard on a sale day and your talking less than 50$. While yer there under that explorer, those are 1330 ujoints....
Oh, and for extra points ya can drill the flange with the BMW/GM 5x4.75 and the Mercedes/Audi/VW 5x112 bolt pattern. Then you can tap them, and use their bolts and switch damn near any wheel you want on it.(offset still is a concern however)

Why pre 85? 85 still had the solid front axle.. did they swap brakes for just that year?

What would be needed besides the calipers?

The S12 calipers fit on the 280z mounts, & I'm pretty sure they fit on the 280zx mounts (I did manage to fit one on at a junk yard several years ago, but I don't remember which caliper it was). The only issue on the 280zx is that the spindle is shorter, so you will need hub adapters & run other wheels (like the 4 lug honda).

Of the stuff above, I like the Cobra idea. Only real downside I can see is Datsun 15" wheels can't be used. So I've found 2 datsun wheels I like, and zero ford ones.(ford has an affinity for making UGLY wheels) Nice write up.

which wont help you, because 90% of your brakes are biased to the front.

theres no real point in having better rear brakes in a stock s130, its like saying you have a better billet shift **** for you civic.

The rear brakes are already bigger than the front. Just upgrade the front and call it good.
