Where to Start on rebuild?

I just bought a 1983 & 1\2( i dont know if the half makes a difference) 280zx with t-tops and electronic gauges. It runs and the power equipment work. but the motor runs real ruff and so does the power equip. most of the hoses are dry and cracking, belts are fine. The clutch and trany work too. It's been sitting for 10-20 years, I was surprised it ran. I was wondering what should I start with whe rebuilding? This is my first Z and I just want it to run well and not have to worry about breaking down. Thanks for the help.

Before starting any project, establish a realistic budget... what is your $ limit?

Welp... if "running rough" is your main concern right now, do the basics...

Change the oil, plugs, cap, wires, coolant (if necessary), any cracked hoses, adjust timing, and throw in some good fuel treatment... like that BG er B52 er grampa's cough surup er whatever it's called... has this logo on it:

Don't cut corners thinking that cheap will do... cheap always costs more in the end.

if the car has been sitting for 10-20 years, was the engine prepared properly (pickled) prior to letting it sit, or was it just allowed to sit?? if only allowed to sit, you might want to consider changing out any gaskets and seals thst would become dry and brittle BEFORE you tromp down on the gas--you don't want to see smoke screen because an improperly stored car does make problems later--like just when you stomp the gas headed out on a long trip--and change ALL hoses so they don't break later--always at the WRONG times.
