what do you guys think of this?

so i decided i like the styling of the 280x and zx and can look just astounding wiht the right work done, but i was never a fan of the motor, but i just now foun this.....and it has me thinking strong...... so was curious as to what you guys think, i believe its a 280z not a zx by the styling but it was for sale as a zx i believe. i can tell it needs some body work but after fully restoring a 280 z with my dad i think paint and new carpeting would be a cake walk. so chelk this out and tell me what yah think

I wouldn't touch that thing with a ten foot pole. It's a raging POS and the ad was so poorly written that I wonder about the quality of the guys work... Too many things about that ad just don't "add up".

I like the idea of an RB swapped Z, but I think it would be far more wise to start from scratch rather than hope somebody else did it right before they decided to bail out of the project half way through.

Chances are, they bailed out becuase they can't get it to work right...

Just my opinion.

i didnt think of that, i was thinking more along the funds side, what if he has documentation of profesional install? hmm...? i should definatly ask some questions from him though, see if i can try to figure him out, thats always the challenge.
i like the thought rod, but damn that was critical lol.....i feel so shot down, and i didnt even do anything. haha, those are some harsh words, i doubt i would buy it though, just cause its in georgia and im in IL, so thats a big risk. if think i got family right around there though, my uncle hes a big Z guy lives in florida i should tell him to go check it out if i actually start to think about it more seriously, but first, im gonna ask questions.

wait. how is it a raging POS, if the swap was done right (lets assume) its just some bodywork i said it would be a project car, i expect to do tons of work on it, i love the ability to paint and make it look exactly how i want, the only thing i would be concerned about is what you said, the swap was done right. i dont know whats going on inside or under the car htough huh? i should get more pics, make sure there is no rust, no dead bodies, other stuff, i deff need more pics.

I said that, because that's just the "vibe" I get from it. The fact that he said you can only run 5-8 PSI of boost is a GIANT red flag for any reason. From the picture, it looks like the body has more waves than the Pacific Ocean... Overall, I think it just looks and sounds like a lot of up front cash for what appears to be an expensive project... Buyer Beware.

haha...funny dude. but he siad he is only at 5 psi full throttle at 8 wich yes does sound retarded, he siad it can safley handle 16psi...blahblahb blah....i was wondering if mabye he is part of a z forum somewhere, with a swap like that i would think he is, mabye said some stuff, i know i did before i sold my car. im gonna try to investigate this dude. also i did reread that, he does have a odd and shitty description, however if you are only allowed a certain amount of characters when you creat the add (like i did for my auto trader add) you try to fit alot of crap in a small space and mess junk up, so im gonna jump to an immediate conclusoin on his grammer for the add, i emailed him, asked a million questions and for a million pics, now im gonna try to find him on the web....try.....

Sounds like it'd be a really fun car if its done right... straighten that fender, and gut the rest of the interior, since he already started on the carpet and you're gold ... if the swap was done right.

I was going to put an RB20 in my z, untill I got to thinking about how much of a bitch it'd be to replace any parts after I started making some "real" power on it I decided to settle for a built-up VG

it's only an RB20.

If you've got the money you can get it then fork over another $1500-$2000 for an RB25DET with all the wiring and ECU and swap the motors and then sell the RB20 to some 240sx guys to make some of that money back (probably a cool $1000). The RB25 will drop directly in place of the RB20. You'll have a better, more powerful, smoother motor. I mean the hard part of fabbing everything up is already done. And the transmission is interchangeable.

If you cant do the fabbing yourself then paying someone else to professionally make an RB fit into your car can easily eclipse the $4k mark. Think of it like buying a prefabbed RB kit

i like the way your thinking J.....im perfectly comfortable with dissasemblying and reassemblying anything...i can fab some stuff.....but such as motor mounts and other more heavier or metal things, i dont have the resources or knowledge, i can probably find a buddy or friends dad that could, if not use my dads friends and pay a bit more....but the direct replacement of an rb25 would be simple and so worth it......probably owuld have to sell the 20 before i got hte 25 thoug lol.....im still researching this guy..
