VIN Decoder?

I know I've seen it on one of these Z forums, but am unable to locate it now. Does someone have a link to a VIN breakdown for the ZX? Trying to findout definitively what year my car is.

Heh, interesting thing is...my parts ZX's vin number stars with J1.... and for some reason none of the numbers and letters match to what Haynes layout describes. I was trying to find out what kind or diff the car hard.

It seems that my vin does not match the Haynes key or the one on xenon's site. My vin has only numbers after hte HS130 part. Its like HS130-25138 or something.

I've checked in about 3 different places on the car to make sure they're all the same. Windshield/dash, riveted on plate behind battery, and I think the other place was stamped into the firewall's sheet metal I don't recall for sure the third position I checked.

Oi! Looks like my car's alot older than the year the P.O. told me at the time of sale. Apparently I'm driving an `81 model. I think this is a good thing though, as I remember seeing that the rear e-brake cable is avail for alot cheaper on the early ZX's.

I wish there was a decoder that would tell you how many cars with your options were made... I'm still trying to find out exactly how many lime green 79's were made...

CHANKS! Too bad this isn't a BMW, Mini and Rolls-royce forum. But welcome to ZDriver if you ever come back!

I will be updating my Site tonight with the early Pre 3/81 Vin information.

It will be under the basics tab.

Just to let you know there is not much information in the old style VIN.

Resurrected from the dead.

So there's really no way to find any info on the car if it doesn't have a 17 digit VIN then?
