I just recently purchased a 5 speed transmission for my 1982 Datsun 280zx, my problem is the transmission sat for over 10 years but was in good working order before it was put up. After unseizing the shifter I could only get it in 3rd 4th 5th and reverse, it would not slid over to reach 1st and 2nd. Any help or info on this problem would be much appreciated

 

Have you inspected the clutch master & slave cylinders?

 

I have not put the 5 speed into my Datsun yet, So I wouldn’t need a Slave cylinder or master clutch to move it into gear right? I’ve just been simply trying to loosing up all the components that haven’t moved in 12 years, I can rotate the input shaft by hand and move it into 3-R I tried lightly tapping it with a rubber hammer to got it to move over to 1st or 2nd but it doesn’t want to “click over” to those gears.
