Cutting the coils is kinda ghetto... but it will give you the look you want for a really good price... free! I've done this before and learned that a little goes a long way. Better to cut too little than too much. The rear will drop more than the front with the same amount of cutting, so... baby steps... take a little bit and see how you like it. Once you cut too much, you are screwed. You also have to let them re-settle after you put them back in the car, so don't judge the look right after re-installing them. Drive it around for a few minutes and then see what you think. I'm sure you know all the negative things about cutting your coils, so I'll skip reminding you of them. Also remember that the top rings are where your progression comes from, so the ride height on the rear will change noticeably depending on how much weight is in the back of the car... i.e. how much gas is in the tank. I'd say you want to have a pretty full tank when you do it so you'll get a good idea of how it will look at it's lowest point. Have fun and good luck. That car's coming along pretty sweet.

Rod.

Hey, Black, I've got a solution for your ***-happy Zed ...

... spring clamps.

That's right, they clamp one coil of your stock springs down onto another one below it. I bought a kit that included 4 clamps for $8.99 at AutoZone. I installed the rear clamps on my car, but I put them a little far up, so it actually didn't lower the car, just bent the spring. I"ll move them down a coil later and see just how much of a difference it really makes. I'll even throw in pics when that happens.

Peaces,

Hey buddy, before I jump all in... what is the purpose for lowering your Z? Performance, or looks??? If you want a super easy solution, and a wicked stiff ride, get some front springs from a 79 - 82 300D mercedes benz & cut them down to your desired ride height, for the rear springs of your 280zx. See pic....

I did that before I got my Eibach's & they worked well.

Cutting your springs will give you looks alone.

Putting engineered lowering springs will give you both.

He's trying to get the looks without spending any money until he can get the properly engineered springs.

Going to the 300D springs would cost $$ even from the junk yard.

i wouldnt recoment cutting the stock springs.. some of my friends were doing that back in the 80's to thier Zs and oh man did the ride suck.. there were too low and too soft.. not a good idea... but the 300D springs might not be a bad idea..... prolly only coat you $50 buck or so in the junk yeard...

by the way.. welcome to the board NisnoPick

$35 is what I paid at the local Pick n Pull for those 300D springs... which around here is about the highest priced yard. Those springs are thick ace & will stop the "z squat."

Thanks for the welcome Icice9!... I've been on GOT-Z for a while & from a recent post there, remembered about this forum.... I LIKE! I LIKE!

Eibach Pro-kit, the only way to go, as I have listed in several postings... I am trying to sell my car to no luck however my suspension is built up for autocross/racing applications & my god was it worth it! take the time & invest the $$ into the car, do not cut your springs there are too many things can go wrong with that

They are just for the 280zx rears. The fronts are a much bigger diameter & I haven't found any other cars that have the same front spring size. I'm lookin tho.
