Ouch, I Would Have Broken The Drivers Window. Those Quarter Windows Are Getting Harder And Harder To Get And They Are Not Cheap.

Not Really Sure On The 2+2 But I Know For The Coupes They Are Really Expensive. There Seem To Be More 2+2's Around Nowadays So Prob Not That Much.

Maybe this will clear up what the part is, the coupe's quarter glass doesn't open, the 2+2's quarter glass opens, the latch on the rear side of the glass is what he needs...the piece that holds the glass closed and open, it's a single piece and not the hinge, just that latch piece.

Tell him next time to use a coat hanger and go in through the window. I don't know if this works for all of the 280ZX but the t-top versions don't have a frame around the door's window. Where the outside vent is, the window just pushes against some rubber to make a seal. You can stick the coat hanger in through there with a hook shape on the end. You can catch the door lock and pull it back. Not the easiest thing to do the first time but after a few times you'll either remember to always have your keys, or you'll get good at it.

personally I'd much rather do that than have to break something such as a window or latch.

That is the main reason I keep my two keys separate on my key chain, I have a quick release on my main ignition key and the other stays firmly on my key chain, on my belt loop. I never get locked out of my car...ever. Doing it this way also keeps one key in the ignition, less weight = less wear on the ignition. Not like my moms where she has like 2lbs of keys hanging off the damn thing when she drives.

1979-81 2+2 windows have the latch. 1982-83 have the cable opperated opening windows.

maybe some GL version of the '81 would have the cable too...

I use any Nissan key to get into my car...

Hey just tell him to replace it with tinted perspects and make it a solid window. I have contimplated this due the leaking and the price of rubber seals. Cost $600 AUD to get seals for T-top to be brought in from Japan. Man I felt that one and it still damn leaks!!!
