roof mod

allright another far fetched question about big mods
i want a targa top, really bad, i can get all the Lexan i want for free to use in the top but i just need to come up with a way to impliment the idea... does ANYONE know of a kit out there thatl make it happen? i dont want the targa roof band that makes it LOOK like a targa top, i want an actual 1 peice targa insert to replace my T-tops,

you may be askin yourself "why, zac, are you wanting all these mods" the answer is simple, cause they make my car look sexy, and chicks dig sexy, and i dig chicks, you seen where im goin with this? thanks for the help

Zac

Make your own kit then sell it us This is a nice idea and i'm thinking about trying it we will have to keep in contact. I think I might look into fabricating something up myself. Leave something if you find some more info on this. http://www.hbpsystemsplc.co.uk/newpage1.htm

Maybe try molding a targa piece in the shape of the t-tops but as one piece that runs the width of the car. Then cut out the center divider of the car frame and put the new piece in.

They do make convertible kits. Why not do that?
I think those look much better.

it would look sweet as hell but one problem... the center section you need to cut out is structural.. without it the chassi would twist and your gaps for your doors would all be off... your gonna have to renforce the frame to reduce body twist...

Rollcage. That's a simple solution, right? Or just have some tubing running somewhere around there, in an X-pattern or something ...

Reaction does a convertable kit for the ZX. I'm still debating if I want to do this with my car or not... I might as well since I'm going to be building a tube chassis and rebuilding most of the car. but I dont know, we'll see. Ask them about the targa top they might have some good info. at the least they'll sell you the windshield header so that's one less thing you'll have to worry about.

You could try some things that are commonly used in modern vehicles for rigidity. As in the case of the Rx8 and S2000, they use a structural "backbone" down the center of the vehicle, allowing the S2k to be a convertible, and the Rx8 to have "freestyle" doors. I'm sure you could work something to that effect on a Z - I could see the backbone tying into the firewall, running down the cabin, and branch out to the rear subframe. Yes, that would be a lot of work, but it would do just that ... work.

Just a thought,
-Dave
