I thought the S2000 was more in the $23-27K range.

negative, 31k and up from what i remember

i've driven a 350z a couple times and i've been driven around in an s2000. i can live with 'just' 240 horsepower in a 2,900 pound car, plus the biggest advantage that the s2000 has over the 350z in my book is styling. now the s2000 compared to a g35c is a whole nother matter

31k is a little on the high side... As far as I have seen a new S2000 (at a lot with refunds, sales, etc...) is more around what Bleachy said...

I owned a 350Z when I was 19, and I've never driven an S2000, so I can't compare performance....

As far as style goes, I think they are both great looking cars! IF you are set on a convertible, S2000 wins hands down, b/c the roadster 350Z is kinda on the ugly side to me. How about that new Pontiac 2-seater???!?! That thing is pretty... not sure on performance though.

Pontiac?????! Dude, you seriously need to get over this whole "American" thing, It's bad enough that you had to go and defile a perfectly good Nissan with a chevy motor but now touting a pontiac? Damn! Next thing you know, you're gonna be telling us about the "Bitchen New Buick" that's coming out in 2006

It may not be ugly, but... Pontiac???????????

Might as well get yourself an old black/gold 6.6 litre Trans Am, a cowboy hat and a CB radio.

The current price for the 2006 S2000 is $33,000. I think the price back in the year 2000 was much lower. Also, the engine has changed since then. I had thought I read a review comparing the S2000 and 350Z, and the S2000 was cheaper but slower. I did find the more recent review of the convertibles, and the S2000 gets good praise now that it is running a 2.2L engine with slightly more torque.

I still like the styling of a 1982 Honda Civic with the top chopped off by a sawsall. Now that's one hot convertible.... and its cheaper than a 280ZX!

That Pontiac just wishes it was a BMW.

I'm no hater. (except Mustangs)

I think this is a good Direction for GM! The company desperately NEEDS any new direction.... I was watching a special the otherday on how GM has went downhill in the last few years, and how they are hoping that sales of this Pontiac (TEN points for anyone who spells out the acronym!!! ) and the Saturn can generate some big numbers.

Don't get me wrong, I won't be buying any domestic vehicle until I'm too old to push a clutch... then I'll get a new CADDY....

not wrong again! Read my first sentence!

when you have a Honda Dealership offering 5,000 dollar rebates, and double trade in values, and whatever other cheesy gimmick they come up with, it drops that MSRP WAYY down...

That 33,150 is what a poor sucker would pay that didn't try to talk the salesman down any...

when you're talking about new car prices you usually talk about MSRP, not what you would get after all the rebates and whatnot. personally i haven't seen any $5000 rebates from honda, maybe for the Civic **** which sells, well, like ****, but not for an s2000. for all intents and purposes the 350z is in the same price range as the s2000. depending on options the 350 ranges from 27.5k all the way to 34.5k

given the choice, i would still rather have the s2k than the 350z

350Z could be ten grand more than the S2k and I'd still buy it over the Honda... So I guess all the bickering over what costs more is kind of irrelevant.

Rod. 350Z=Better car than S2000

Anyone who walks onto a dealer lot and pays MSRP is a FOOL. Sorry but it's true. I posses almost no negotiating skillz but I'll tell you what, I know better than paying what it says on the window So that's completely irrelevant. As far as which car is better. Well I'm pretty sure the 350Z is on everyone's list (car magazines) of top cars each year. MotorTrend, C&D, etc... So it's a fine automobile. But that says nothing for ones personal taste. Both are great handling cars though the Z has far more postential in the power development department (if you want to retain drivability). If it's decision based on styling then it's up to the person who's making the decision dont you think? It's a matter of personal taste.

For example, here's my taste:
The S2000 is a damn sexy car. Though a bit of an underachiever for it's price since it's not the luxutry that makes it so expensive. So what if it makes the most horsepower per liter of any NA engine. How about making the most torque. Or at the very least, put that horsepower where it can be used. The 350Z is no where near as sexy as the S2K, but it sure does look like it would beat it's *** if the S2K started mouthing off though. It looks more like a brawler then the S2K. And from a performance standpoint, it is. I hate the G35 sedan with a passion. One of the ugliest cars Nissan has rolled out in a while. The G35coupe is better. Much better, by leaps and bounds. But still looks like an overweight fat chick that you try to picture 300lbs skinnier cause you know she'd be hot as hell with that cute face. And the worst part is that that over weight cute fat chick is the latest generation of Nissans ultimate driving machine. How pathetic is that. Even when they put AWD and turbo the damn thing, it's still no comparison to versions passed.

It's just a re-skinned Vauxhall V220.

The turbo will be decent (I think the Saturn Sky will be turbo), but the NA is a slug.

yup, all they did was configure the engine like a lot of people do when they change their streetable engine to more of a high rpm race engine.

You can get 200+ whp out of an L28 but the low end suffers. Balance it, port it too much, put in a long duration cam and you've got all high end power. The L28 makes more torque than horsepower and the 350Z was designed so it would have usable power in all RPMs. Thats good engine design; pumping out the most peak horsepower is not a 'good' deisgn, it just looks good on paper. Driving on the freeway, a 350Z passes you in your Honda. You downshift from 6th to 2nd gear to try to catch up!
