Project Car Question Mark? :)

Hey Everyone, I'm new here.

I want to give a quick background as to who i am and how i made it onto your cool forum.

I'm a graduating Electrical Engineer Student, looking for something to keep me busy once school is done. I am good with my hands, try to do most of the mechanical work myself, because lets be honest the best work is done by you. My dad and i have been working on an 83 911sc and thats just about "finished", but its will never really be finished. I'm now looking to branch out into a different car market. Right now, my daily driver is a 01 325i, that i love to death, but i wanted to work on something a little bit different.

My vision for this build is not a racer, but something "Low, slow, and smelly" and the only criteria is the model has to be unique, something you won't see 12 of going to the grocery store. Naturally if i didn't want to go German, I thought Japan. Of course being a product of the fast and furious generation, the car on the wall has always been a skyline, unfortunately they are near impossible to afford in Ontario.

So I'm calling on the Z-driver wisdom. Do you think a z is right for me?

your problem is that there are a lot of different z's. the first batch were the s30s The original 240 and including the 76-78 280x. then come the 79-83 280zx (s130) you can get a turbo version from 81, 82, 83. I personally like the Turbo 280zx. I grew up when the Jag E version was hot so I like the long hood but when I offered one to my twenty something son he said that was the reason he didn't like it. all those models look a lot alike on quick glance. then came the z31 named the 300zx from 84 to 89. My favorite is the first three years of that run. My daily driver is an 86 turbo. after that you got the z32 also named 300zx which confuses some. Italian design pretty car loved my 96 the TT version is faaast. but momma said I only get two cars so my latest garage queen is a 2008 350zx Nismo. Your choice depends on your ability to keep 20 plus year old vehicles running and the dollars available. look at em all.

Welcome to Zdriver Kevin;

And not to belittle you or anything rogerz. But I had to make sure the Z's were stated correctly.

(The S30's)

The 240z ('70-'73)
The 260z ('74-'75 1/2)
The 280z ('75 1/2-'78)

(The S130's)

The 280zx ('79-'83)

The 1st Generation 300zx [Z31] ('84-'89)
The 2nd Generation 300zx [Z32] ('90-'96)

Then of course you have the 350z's and the 370z's. Hope that helps you out, and personally I love the 280zx's the most. As I have four of them, although I do plan on getting a 240z someday.
