Price for 280zx

Howdy, my uncle is getting ready to sell his 1981 280zx, and has no idea what price he should sell it for. I said I would do some research and realized that it would be harder than expected because its not on kbb. Any advice would be appreciated on what the listing price should be. Like said before it's a 1981 280zx non turbo 5 speed manual. It has t top, power windows, and he said that it has the GLC package? It has been restored; fresh paint, and new interior. The car has 72,000 miles. The car is in great shape and looks brand new, no rust and is heated garage kept. This is all the information I have now but will find out if more information is needed or if there is anything that I should check into. Thank you in advance.

I've seen Z's in that condition go for $4000-$6000+ on ebay. That is of course if it's in as good of shape as you stated and that it is in as good of shape in the mechanical's department.

Yeah, jfairladyz sounds about right, nada.com does give a value on the car, you can ck what they say too. ebay is a good place to try to sell it too, lots of exposure.

ebay is a good place to sell. But selling on Ebay might discourage soem buy's. due to the hassle of shipping a freakin car

Now that's when you feel proud. When there's a guy in a crazy expensive car like a lambo doing a double take on a Z.

Woa, u sure about that!?!?! Ok i know im gonna get flamed for this but I dont care cuz I know im right!, OK I can find without trying 389,402 parts for a 240sx and then not only that, theres the whole JDM aftermarket of parts. I havent found anything for my 280zx 'cept for the overpriced stuff at ZStore.com, which in my opinoin kinda isnt too great. I cant find a turbo kit for my N/A but I can for my 240sx's KA24DE...And wheels...and exhaust systems...and everything else you can even name I can find for a 240sx. Everyone mods those cars! Not many people except for ethusiats mod S130s! And look at all the crazy built up truenos they have in Japan! HKS, BLITZ, TIEN...every tuning company in the world makes parts for the 240sx and trueno. How many tuning companys make parts for 280zx's? They dont even make coilovers for our cars!

jdm started in the 70's with z cars ...if you have seen some of these older parts you would understand .....twin turbo zcars lates 70's early 80's..so sick ..o ya isnt most of the 240sx platfrom design built off the zcar platform ..the l28 stomps the ka 240sx motor ...i know
also wasnt the rb platform made becuase of the L28ET design changes.
i just feel that the zcar sets the bar , when it comes to import car madness .
Zcar ..knowen to many as the vette killer.
so the value of it should be set higher then most people do ...
i wont say $8000.00 for asking price , unless i seen some pics of your car.
but i would never part with mine for less ..there are alot of zcars selling out there
it would be hard to sell any car for that price in todays market but , ebay seems to
be the place to try to get top dallor out of your zcar.. there was one selling for $6500.00
buy it now price pretty stock with very low miles ......

Wow, only a rear set that costs almost as much as a TIEN full damper kit which comes with coilovers for all four corners. I know I sound like a little kid but really thats overpriced man and a front set doesnt even exists, and its homemade by a website.

Once upon a time the S130 had some decent aftermarket support. But now a days the pickin's is slim You're pretty much limited to the generic MSA stuff or somebody's temporarily produced custom stuff. The 240SX has an aftermarket almost as big as the Civic. The Z, all generations included, cant touch that. Not even close. As far as the AE86 goes: Never owned one, never wanted too. Not saying it's a bad car, I wouldn't know. Just dont know much about em or their aftermarket.

The Z is a great car, and it did set the bar for a lot cars to come after it. But it's aftermarket is no where near the 240SX. Even when the S130's aftermarket was at it's peak it couldn't touch todays aftermarket for the 240SX. It's the new Civic for all the ricers.

Damn drifter kids...

Well, at least the FWD thing is dying down as a result. We should all start seeing fewer riced out Honda's on the roads soon enough

You guys still see riced out hondas? i thought ricers were dying down, even other Honda owners laugh at them. BTW how many riced out 240sxs do you see? Ive seen NONE yeah not even one in real life! Its not the new Honda Civic for ricers cuz ricers drive POS cars that are useless. The 240sx has always been a badass car, even with he lame *** KA motor. Reason u didnt see many is cuase of drifting! Thats why every one you see has some body damage on it. But yeah dont hate on 240sxs cuase in a way theyre like the 280zx's offspring...

Might want to change your location from "Miami FL, land of ricers" in that case.

I didn't mean it in the literal sense of a ricer But a few years ago if you told your honda friend you had a 240sx, he's probably ask you WTF that was. Then one day super street prints an article on drifting and the 240sx and everyone and they're mother goes out and gets a 240sx. Now instead of being cool cause you drive a Civic, you have to own a bottom of the barrel drift car. The 240 is a decent car, not a badass car. A supra is a badass car. A Z32TT is a badass car. But your typical enthusiast cant afford those vehicles. But in order to stay mainstream they buy whats popular in their price bracket. In the 90's it was the Civic. In our new milinium it's the 240sx.

Most 240 owners will never even see a track, let alone actually start drifting. And I'm not talking powerslides around street corners. That doesnt count Drifting became the new craze. While some (ie: few) are actually out there doing it, most are posers who just talk about it (not pointing fingers).

And for a case in point with my theory on the 240 being the new Civic, take a look in an autotrader and look at the limited selection of overpriced 240's for sale. Most have been screwed beyond repair due to someone trying to swap in a motor they never had. If you were to look in an autotrader a few years ago you'd see an abundance of 240's in perfect running condition for fairly cheap. YOu could pick up a daily driver for under a grand no problem. Now the market is plagued with underpriced Civics that nobody wants cause their owners have all gone out and bought drift cars.

Exactly! Wish i spoke japanese so i can go on the Japanese yahoo auctions! Also anyone been at S130.net? Its seems to be a japanese Z site and look at their S130s and what they have on them... way more parts and stuff ive never seen on any US Z. I saw a L28E with a L20 head swap and a bunch of other stuff. Thier aero parts look way better too IMO, nicer cleaner wings and very nice front air dams. And carbon Fiber everything yaaaaaaaay!!! Oh yeah and coilovers!!! their cars are really dropped low! whooooooo
