280zx for sale is it worth the asking price?

I was picking up stuff for work today when i saw what looked like a gorgeous 280zx! SO i pulled over to look at the sign in the window that said for sale. of course the car has been sitting for who knows how long so its filthy. it has a year old Burnt orange paint job on it. First off if you are trying to sell a car clean it just a little and at least air up the tires and charge the battery. so i went and asked the guy that owns it to look at it. while he was getting the keys i began my walk around and proceeded to find painted over cancer on the top of the windshield as well as a missing chrome trim around the windshield, lifting paint on the cowl, and cracks, and big scratches in other places. its a 1982 slick top he had listed as an 84 and he had a a huge argument with me about how it was an 84. nope proved him wrong! than he opened up the hood. the motor is relatively clean. he said he recently had the head redone and thats the only thing. i asked if the motor was well worn out and he was quick to say it was. i looked at the speedometer and it has 336000 miles on the car. the dash is destroyed with sun cracks. the rear hatch area carpet is torn up. its a 5speed which is a plus. but how much reliability could i expect out of this car. it needs new tires and who knows what else, its been sitting. opinions? $1350 is the asking price should i offer that or talk him WAY down for all the repairs? its in lancaster off 23rd street west and ave I if anyone wants to go by and check it out possibly save its life...

With that high mileage, even up here in Canada, that car would only probably sell for 800-1000, considering the floorboard and frame were rust-free.

if he's selling this from his body shop then it may just be a lost cause in his eyes. Not that it cant be repaired, but that it wouldnt be worth the effort in his eyes on a car thats not really at all valuable even if the body was in good condition. ESPECIALLY with those miles! I'm not sure where in Cali Quartz hills is but finding a nice ZX for very little $$ shouldn't be too difficult.

ya ur probably right j i'll have to talk to him again and keep making offers and when he doesn't sell it if he wants the money than he'll have to take the offers right. quartz hill is actually part of the lancaster palmdale area if you know where that is.

thats way to much for that with all of that damage. I know for a fact that you can find a better one for much less. I was trying to sell my 79 for 1400 and that was in great condition minus the paint.

Dude, i dunno but those pics make that body look damn good. I would say offer him 500 for the whole car. Flash some bills in his face. he wont refuse. Then just yank the motor and tranny and use a lil more money to throw something with less miles in there. Then work your way up. That slicktop 82 looks pretty damn good. I would try and nab it.Take better pics and let us know how is goes

id say 500ish, looks better than anything i see around here (other than my cars) up here in b.c. that would be a 2500 dollar car!!! buy it and sell it up here! it actually doesnt look that bad really, one rust bubble, and you got a great dd. mileage is nothing, its just a great way to lower the price. walk up to him with cash and transfer papers, everyone understands cash.

Seriously. Its all about slapping someone with a few bills. As soon as the green comes out, their reservations of holding out for the higher bidder goes out the window and they bite-hook, line and sinker
