Pop goes the wheezle!

Non the less I was pulling out of my neighborhood, and low and behold a kid ran in the street, I stomped on the brakes as I did, I heard a very loud pop, and then it sounded like someone took shell casings and droped a box of them. I get out look at the car, and my tension rod is snaped in half, this common?

Thanks,
wgc_3

Wait... the actual ROD snapped in half? That isn't too common... even if it were rusted quite a bit. That is a thick chunk of hardened steel.

Take a pic cuz I'd love to see this.

I just ordered the performance rod kit from blackdragon, and all new bushings. Heck while I'm down there might as well make use of it.

Do yall find it easier to work on those rods with it ramped up or lifted?

It would seem as though it would be easier ramped because not all the weight of the wheel, hub etc etc is putting pressure on the rods?

Thanks,

Put the front on jack stands (wheels off the ground). Then if you need to jack up the hub to bolt it back together, you can.

I wouldn't have it ramped, because it could potentially cause more damage when you unbolt it... don't wanna see things fly.

Yep, seen that before. A friend of mine has done it twice on his 83ZX. First time it was loose due to bad bushings, second time the rod was rusted around a washer and snapped clean like yours.

A local mechanic who I was talking to at work was telling me that some where in the Dallas area there is a Z Junk Yard, does any one know about it? Even if there is one in Texas?

you said you ordered the performance rod kit. Does that mean you're buying new rods?

...so you dont need used ones now.
