Hello all idk if im using this site right but here it goes i just picked up at 1981 280zx its my dream car dont know much about working on cars though. My problem is when i start the car its fine then i tapthe throttle and it sounds hesitant and backfires i unplugged the maf and it runs real rough when i do that but dosent die the tps is missing a screw when i drive it it will block me anywhere from 2500 to 4k rpm any thoughts ? I would do the basics like check/ replace the old hoses to ensure there are no vacuum leaks, plugs etc. but honesty I'm pretty sure you're having a problem with the fuel system being clogged. Drop the tank and inspect it and the inline filter. Install a clear fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump(to monitor the quality of gas/gunk) and maybe swap the pump with a cheap rockauto one for now while you're at it(nvr hurts to have an extra one around, trust me), put in a new fuel filter too. Prior to doing all that though, it may be more convenient to check/get a fuel pressure gauge and check that.
One rare thing couple be the fuel pressure damper. I have 4 zx's and I didn't even know the part existed until one failed on mine recently and began leaking. Best advice is don't throw parts at her unnecessarily. Welcome to your new addiction... or enemy.
