I spent all last night reading the post on the guy that painted his charger with roller and some paint similar to rustoleum. Being the wtf kinda guy I am I thought I would try it on my Z. Plus being short on money is a big factor...

I preped the car as normal with my body work and primer. I wet sanded the car then took the instructions from the other post and wiped the car down with 100% mineral spirits and tacked it off. It is 7:24PM here now and I just finished the first coat. Here are some before and after pics.

This is just the first coat and I haven't wet sanded. Hopefully tomorrow I will wet sand and put another coat on. I will post more pics tomorrow night. From what I've seen so far I think this is going to be great.

vrocious I didn't do this with a roller. That scared me. I have a spray gun and compressor from other projects so I just sprayed it.

I took some more photos and added to the restore pic site. I wet sanded this morning with 400 grit and washed it down. The re-coat looks much better. I'm going to let it sit until late this afternoon and try a second wet sand with 1000 grit then spray again.

I'm using gloss black rustoleum and thinning with acetone. I also added Jap-Dryer to speed the drying up some. I did the fingernail test on an out of site area and the paint passed. Granted it is still very soft, but it wouldn't flake off. So I am very pleased so far. Here is the link again.

I'm sorry dude... I had to report that gallery to the moderators for "inappropriate" content.

You should not be able to get a paint job that good with rustoleum!

P.S.
My white 240Z is gonna get a Bob Sharp #33 paint scheme with the same method... shhh... don't tell anyone...

What model paint gun do you have and what was your acetone / paint mix ratio?

Last two coats applied!!!
I finished up putting on the last two coats of paint. I love to paint, but the wet sanding sucks...

lww my mixture is about 2 or 3 to 1 acetone to paint. I made it really thin and with the dryer added it seems to really bring out the shine. I am using a Cornwell gravity feed HVLP gun at about 25lbs. The pressure a little high for the gun, but I really got a good flow.

I added a few more pics. The last one is a test section after I sanded with 2000 grit and polished with the compound and wax. I think it is going to turn out great, but I've had enough for today. I really need to find me an electric buffer..

Added a few more pics
Spent all day on the passenger side of the car. I can't seem to get the rear quarter sanded out enough. I will pick it up again tomorrow. Front fender and door are looking good though.

Don't look real close, cause I got a few. I finished up sanding and waxing today. Finally figured the sanding part out. 2000 grit wet sanding with a random orbital sander seemed to work well. I added a few more pics of the finished product. Now I'm headed for the interior

are you going to
also spray the inside bottoms or edges of the doors? I know those bottoms tend to rust out after the drains get plugged up by leaves and stuff, might be a good idea to give the insides a good spray. Just a thought.

We'll see how it goes. I'm gonna get it as close as possible. I just wish I had a G Nose to complete the effect...

Has anyone read or heard about a clear coat to apply over this paint? I've been looking around but can't seem to find anything.

I don't believe there's any clear coat necessary.
