Question No start 82 turbo Z getting fuel, spark

I recently replaced the fuel pump after diagnosis of first no electric flow to pump , fixed that ,Than determined that the pump was bad and replaced that , and am getting good fuel pressure. After I first installed the pump I got it running a few times but it was hard to start, but was fine after warming up. Now it won't start and it has good spark, fuel pressure and I confirmed the injectors are firing and I replaced the spark plugs and the old ones were dry but a little carbon was on them. The timing is set and vacum leaks have been sealed. I have even tried a little bit of starting fluid to no avail. The engine cranks good and battery is new. Any suggestions would be appreciated It doesnt even act like its going to fire up and I have never been failed with starting fluid , If I have spark I will usually get anything running with the starting fluid. Thanks everyone I have learned alot from ZDriver and am confdent one of you will have the answer.

won't start distributor 180 out

The FSM says the engine needs to turn over 200 rpm to
start.... But If the distributor cap is 180 degrees out
then it may not start even then.

I usually, take the starter solenoid wire off and jumper
the solenoid direct to BATT ++ to get max rpm when my
ZX was slow to start, AND I Have the Ignition Switch in RUN.

SO when engine does fires up it will have power just like
you would with the ignition switch instead of the Bypass
Jumper Start.

My bet is Distributor cap!

Hope this helps!

no start 280zx

Thanks for the reply but I haven't taken the distributer out or even tinkered with anything on the ignition system except to check condition of the rotor and internals. I also cleaned the cap terminals and wires (one at a time) and replaced plugs. The car was running fine than one day it didn't run any more. I found I wasn't getting flow to fuel pump (electric flow) and so I traced it to a messed up fuel pump wire. After getting electric flow than car still didn't start and than I tested fuel pump and it didn't work.replaced it than the car ran for couple days. Now it won.t run at all but it has good spark ea plug. Than checked timing and vacum hoses . The engine cranks very well but for some reason won't start, I cleaned ecu terminals. The car had rancid gas in it so I siphoned gas and put new in. I also checked that the fuel injectors get elecric signals with noid lights. T am thinking injectors might be clogged and wonder what is the best way to clean them????

won't start2

By chance the replacement fuel pump is an after-market
pump? Do you have a feul gauge in the fuel line to see
if its getting gas and fuel line pressure is what (some-
where around 34 to 38-psi) ?

My Z when I had the Surge valve inline with the fuel pump
would idle but die in any gear, when I had ONLY 1-2 gallons
of gas in the tank. The surge valve was setup for a 95-PSI
OEM pump on the ZX. My Aftermarket would Max out at 70-psi.

I verifed that by putting a Gauge inlne, and after the
fuel filter in the rubber fuel line prior to the fuel
rail. Then I clamped-off the rubber fuel line and had
my wife crank the engine-over, the gauge shows the max
pressure that the pump can deliver before dumping gas
back to tank. My solution was to bypass the Surge valve.

That my 2nd thought with no start and changing fuel pump.
good luck.

if it is getting correctly timed spark and it is getting fuel, then i'd say it's either getting too much fuel (which would also explain the carbon on the spark plugs), or it doesn't have enough compression, which doesn't seem likely. so i'd do a search for causes of rich running on your car. probably some simple component.
unless you were checking fuel pressure on the tank side of the fuel filter, which would mean that the filter may be clogged.

I think my injectors are clogged because of the way my plugs arent soaked in gas . I should of drinched them by now. What is the best solution to soak them in after I take them out the injectors that is . I did take my pressure readings after the filter and they were within specs of the manual. Does anyone know where I could get the injector cleanout equipment that plugs into the lines and cleans them while crankin or running the engine. I have found that the rubber fuel line has deteriated and black like substance is going towards the injectors so im sure they are clogged. I will update after I have replaced the lines and figure out how to clean injectors.

And yes it is an aftermarket pump just like the one I took off which ran well in my car for past 4 years.

Archdragon... this may sound stupid, but have you checked
if the oil is low on the dip stick.

Low oil may cause low compression!

I really didn"t realize how bad my fuel lines are in the engine compartment. Im sure that the dissolved rubber stuff are clogging injectors..

No Start 82

One question, sorry this may be dumer than my previous.

Have you been using Ethenol based gas mix that iis over 10% ?

I read some automotive info somewere that said "the rubber fuel lines
were being Eaton" if the ethenol mix was over some % percentage.
